Practice Highlights:

  • 18-22 patients per day
  • Call in rotation with the group of other CNMs
  • Physician support in clinic and hosptial at all times

Responsibilities

Summary:
Seeking a Certified Nurse Midwife to complement a full scope dynamic midwifery service that provides services in both the outpatient ambulatory and inpatient setting. Our program services six practicing locations in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Los Lunas, and Santa Fe. Candidate will be able to effectively identify, evaluate, and address disease prevention and health promotion issues to provide comprehensive womens health care throughout the lifespan, with an emphasis on reproductive, gynecologic, and family-centered health education while administering quality patient care.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates and treats low to moderate risk obstetrical patients for antepartum, labor, and postpartum care.
  • Triages patients to appropriate level of care when outside of the CNMs scope of practice; includes ambulatory clinic encounters, hospital setting, and via phone.
  • Evaluates patients for labor; admits to the hospital and manages labors of low to moderate risk patients.
  • Work in collaboration with PMG physicians, OB hospitalists, and Maternal Fetal Medicine.
  • Demonstrate knowledge, of growth and development, and pathophysiology of disease processes, specific to the obstetrical and gynecological population from menarche through the reminder of the lifespan.
  • Responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of conditions within scope of practice, including obstetrical, and common gynecologic acute and chronic healthcare issues.
  • Performs physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patients clinical problems and health care needs.
  • Records physical findings, and formulates plan and prognosis, based on patients condition.
  • Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use as well as the accurate administration of the pharmacologic agent; including dangerous drugs.
  • Educates patients and/or families about preventive care, medical issues, and use of prescribed medical treatments and/or medications.
  • Works in an independent and interdependent relationship with members of the medical staff, which allows for consultation, collaboration, or referral.
  • May refer patients to physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment.
  • Facilitates evaluation of records by physician(s), peers, and Quality and Standards according to protocols, and receives and implements constructive directives.
  • Performs other functions as required or needed by the department.

 

Credentials Required:
Masters Degree. Graduate of a nurse midwifery program accredited by the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM). 2+ years as a CNM preferred. Must possess, or be able to obtain, current unrestricted license to practice in the State of New Mexico as a CNM. NM Board of Pharmacy (CSR) and Federal DEA required. Must be able to obtain electronic fetal monitoring certification.
